Search Engine Rankings
When it comes to setting up your search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign we recommend that you take the following findings into consideration. We have been researching the percentages of traffic that the top 12 positions in search engines receive and have found some interesting results!
Search Engine Positions
An example of the rough results for search engine ranking percentages and the calculated traffic for a search term which has 10,000 search each month.
Position 1 - 42%, 4,420 traffic
Position 2 – 12%, 1,200 traffic
Position 3 - 8%, 800 traffic
Position 4 – 6%, 600 traffic
Position 5 - 4%, 400 traffic
Position 6 - 4%, 400 traffic
Position 7 - 3%, 300 traffic
Position 8 - 3%, 300 traffic
Position 9 - 2%, 200 traffic
Position 10 - 2%, 200 traffic
(Page 2) Position 1,0.5%, 50 traffic
(Page 2) Position 2,0.5%, 50 traffic
So basically if your website is sitting in position 2 then you are likely to receive around 70% less than if you were one place higher in position 1. That means you are getting about 3.5 times less traffic because of that one position!
A point to note: These percentage depend on the market in which your keywords are targeting. For keywords such as ‘hotels‘ or ‘football boots‘ we would expect to get the above results. If your keywords were ‘website design‘ or ‘personal training london‘ then we would expect that the user is more likely also consider the websites further down the search results to really look into the other competitors, therefore the percentages would increase slightly.
